..garis ’09..

These are all the hardwork done during last semester by (mostly) my classmates. Done just for the marks and grades, I presume.

Just imagine all the effort and expenses spended on these projects, a project alone costs not less than rm10 (enough to fill my stomach for the whole day). So just thinking about it makes me rebellious ; me against the grade slavery attitude…

Some of us may just didn’t get it, that these all are really meant for getting grades and marks for the “not-exactly-promising for your future” exam. Then look at the result now, are we really sincere and honest to ourselves in what ever are we doing?

GRADE SLAVERY

It is for the sake of grades that we do all sort of things during study days. Everything done must be guided by passion of appreciation. I couldn’t guess who among my classmates here that bring home their work of the semester. We talked about design, we talked about ideas and such but finally we throw them into the drain. Hahaha…that’s called “rubbish work”..

Most students nowadays especially architecture students LACK THE SENSE OF APPRECIATION. What is the use of doing things that are against your will just for the sake of grades? Do something that you love, be yourself and you’ll find your path in front of you. If we can’t appreciate the work we’ve done, who else? That’s what you can see here, “Rubbish projects, no soul and no passion..fake,” thought the lecturers as they ordered these works to be disposed.

I am writing this not to blame anyone, just wake up call for us (especially to all archi peasants of PSIS)..make our stuffs for real. Don’t just do something for the grades, but do it for the stuff itself. We aren’t eating just to be full,right? We need the nutrients too..

Honestly, I’m not into the passion of architecture so cronically but I know what I’m doing.

It all comes within your heart, bebeh..let’s stun the lecturers next semester!!!

“Afif..I have something to tell you..”

“Mm?” I turned my head and looked deep into her eyes, and her lips, and her cheek..

“I want to go home..”               

“This is home.”

“No, I mean the place where I come from..”

I was a bit surprised. “Weren’t you from the sky? I saw you fallen from there the first day I met you..”

She giggled, “No,my dear..hehehe.But don’t worry, I want you to come with me.”

I paused for a second (maybe 10 seconds). Then I finally spoke, “It’s okay, Aishah..where ever you go, I’ll always be with you.” Her smile followed my words in an instant.

“Thanks, now let’s just go to sleep..we’ll talk about it again tomorrow.” Aishah cuddled into my arms as I tried to forget her words..

“Good morning! Wake up darl..hehehe!!!”

 It was morning already and the sun is shining brightly. Aishah had long awaken and was preparing breakfast. I was still lying on the deck, my arms still in the position of cuddling since she’d replaced herself with Kitty in my arms. Perfect position..

“You are up early..”

“Hehehe..it’s gonna be a long day today..We’re going to my home.”

I was stunned. “So, last night you really meant it?”

“Of course,wewewewewe….” She makes that funny sound as she packed all her belongings into an old bag of mine.

We both are prepared for the journey, it was a deep voice when I asked her, “Aishah..you really aren’t from the sky aren’t you?”

She smiled, “Hehehe…why?”

“Nothing, I was just guessing that you may be the girl sent by God to me as a companion, the angel I’ve dreamt every night, the damsel in distress, the milk and sugar of my tea, the..”

“Wewewewewe,” that strange sound again, “No..I’m just normal like everybody else, it’s just that I”m blissfully blessed..”

We looked at eachother for an instant and laughed.

“Afif, now it’s time..”

Proud and happy parents will always talk ’bout their children, no matter how they are. Bad or wicked persons doesn’t mean they’re bad parents. I’ve met many people with negative personalities but talked proudly ’bout their young ones. I’ve met “not so good” men and women that are very happy when talking ’bout their sons and daughters. It sometimes came to a time when I felt so touched by the way they talked ’bout their children..some of them talked ’bout their child almost everyday and sometimes repeating the same topic again and again.Some of them aside from their busy schedule still have time to spend with their children, good fathers and good mothers they are. I salute!

Thanks to anyone I meant, you all taught me a beautiful lesson.

It was a calm walking down the street smoking dunhill as I reflected my final moments in Garis. Six months; a length of time which a seed can grow into a herb,a span of days which a child can talk and call his father’s name,a distance of weeks that I guessed that I’ve..grown..

Gutters on the roof, looking it just reminds me of  the days I’ve went to throughout these months. I really felt like going from zero to hero (haha..). I really founded my path here, andd I vow to go strong with no mercy as soon as I returned to Sabak Bernam a few weeks later.

A moment with the 3 ‘Don’s of Garis Architects really made my heart sank. Mr Mok Chee Pan was the first. As i approached him I realized the professionalism and humbleness inside him, reflected by his calm and cool personality. Then it was Tang Hsiao Siak with his cold-blooded style and finally Mr Ahmad Jeffrey Clyde with his great advice.

Roaming inside the office for the last day just waiting for Mr Jeffrey since the afternoon really beared fruit as we had a long chat inside his office. I really felt too appreciated by these 3 men since I was the one who’s responsible to thank them..it was a contrast to what I’ve felt in college (lecturers as bosses giving instructions but no pay,hahahaha).

“In your path, you’ll face people throwing rocks at you from many directions..but don’t stop. Keep on with your journey.You will face big rocks blocking your way, just passed through them..don’t stop” was Mr Jeffrey’s words as I was holding hard to my heart to not sink.

Still on my way back home, these words really settled in my heart. It was among the best advices ever given to me by a man called Boss. “In life, you just need to use your eyes, your mouth and your mind..” said Mr Jeff again as he gestured to the parts he meanted. “Thank you very much Mr Jeff, thank you..”

Anyway GARIS isn’t just about the bosses but the whole staff as well..I do wished to mention all the names here but it will be unfair if I missed 1 or 2 of them. Bad or good, wicked or humble, virgin or horny (hehehe got ya Tommy!) they all are the best colours in  my life over these 6 months. Thank you Garis!!!

As I passed across shoplots blooming in the heart of 32 (three-two) Square my attention was caught by giggles coming from a place not far away,leading me towards VETRO Pub about a distance ahead.

“Hihihihi..kikiki..”

“Ahh..yes..ahh!!!”

Oh,fussball..haha..my, 2 hot chicks playing fussball.One of them is Chinese and the other one is Malay.Both of them wearing black tubes together with mini skirt,black too.

“Hi,playing fussball?” I said as i approached them.They turned their heads towards me and nod,”Yes..” 

“I’m good at fuseball..I never lose.May I join?Only for a while,’coz I’m on my way to lunch..”

They both looked at me instantly with a weird look.

“Well..it’s okay if i can’t..but how ’bout u both teaming up against me?” I offered with a grin.It is now my chance to show my charm to these “potential groupies”..haha.

“Mm..any bet?” one of them said a few seconds later.My,these chicks sure are daring.

“Yeah..how ’bout a 5 round match. The loser gets to buy drinks..”

“Hahaha,” they laughed simultaneously,”U don’t drink..”

Damn..I was just imitating scripts from the films. “So,what do u guys suggest?”

It took a while before the Chinese one replied, “No need to bet,just for fun kay..”

“Yeah,how bout 5 rounds?” the Malay chick smiles.

“Hehehe..as long as u can beat me,err..I mean..as long as u wish..hehe..” I said confidently as I start placing my palms on the tweezers.

They smiled (so sweet)..”Okay!”

Then the game begins…………………………………………

It took less than 10 minutes later that I left them for the reason of a friend was already waiting at the restaurant.
